THE GREATEST OLDIES OF ALL TIME ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a new tentacle of inquiry Babs is bitching at Neil Diamond about not bringing her flowers and singing her love songs�anymore. Ha! He does for me all the time, here on the Greatest Oldies of ALL Time. So, the other night I played cards with some guys from work. One of the guys, Angry Warren, is very keen on coincidences. One of the numerous strings of coincidences that he has collected involves repeatedly finding $20 bills; one he found when he was a kid got immediately confiscated by his uncle (because it had been rolled up for use as a coke straw), another blew across the street in a violent wind storm but lay completely still on the sidewalk long enough for him to walk over and casually pick it up, plus at least 3 other occasions. So when he told us the identity of his upstairs neighbour, should I have been surprised when he told us it was none other than Vance? I felt a chill as I realized that the entire universe is conspiring along with me to get Vance and Viola together (if you don't also feel a chill, then please refer to the table of contents). I had to confirm, �So, Vance is your UPSTAIRS neighbour?� in order to convince myself of the absolute perfection of this development; the upstairs neighbour is the easiest to hear, therefore any romance-related activity/noise will be detected by Angry Warren, whom I can then interrogate at my leisure. However, the reason Angry Warren brought this up was because last week Vance had had his music turned up so loud and for so long that a bunch of tenants complained to the caretaker, who then came and had to pound on Vance�s door to get him to respond. Is Vance actually kind of a jerk BUT WHAT AM I SAYING? If anything, it was to cover the sounds of his sobs as he pined away for the absent Viola. Or, was he trying to drown out the self-satisfied chuckles of a world cruel enough to deprive him of his soulmate? Maybe he was just beating off (it�s healthy!) At any rate, it all sounds suspiciously Viola-related to me! Luckily, according to my Not So Secret Boyfriend (more on that later) today is their first shift together post-abscondment.
