THE GREATEST OLDIES OF ALL TIME ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- further distressing setbacks I am sorry to report that today is day one of a heedless week off that Vance is taking from Market Research, Incorporated. NotSoSecretBoyfriend saw Viola in the lunchroom, breaking bread with some randy interviewer who wanted to prey on her despair, while the groupies fluttered around for some 11th hour flirtation with Vance. Viola was heard to remark in an oh-so-casual tone, �Oh, half of those are his regular days off, anyway,� but did her voice not quaver ever so slightly toward the end? And did she not bite her lip and turn her head when her eyes filled with sudden tears? I don�t know, because I wasn�t actually there for that conversation. I did, however, score the opportunity to venture down to the second floor where V & V�s team sits, at which time I caught sight of them, brimming with inevitability, at Vance�s cubicle/desk. They were entertaining a guest, a captain from another team. They appeared a couple posing for a sepia-toned portrait, she of course standing right next to Vance�s chair, which he had swivelled toward the guest. Their proximity to each other is similar to when a second cashier arrives behind the counter to bag stuff up, or get change; it�s comfortably and familiarly crowded. So, anyway, my eye is starting to wander a bit, what with the current idleness of V & V. (I was going to try to use the word �staticness�, but the closest SpellCheck would allow was seasickness, which is a good word for how I feel about them right now: nervous and queasy). I need more soap-operatic couples to unite!!
